Cassidy Campbell: That’s Homecoming Queen to You

Posted on Saturday, September 21, 2013 in Sexy Saturdays

Ms. Robin, Sex Goddess logo On this Sexy Saturday, I was planning to write about my recent visit to the Museum of Sex, MoSex, in New York City. However, I was watching the news when I heard that student, Cassidy Campbell, in So. Cal has made history as the first transgender homecoming queen in our nation. That’s hot! The MoSex article can wait until next week.

As I continued to watch the news clip, I was excited that Cassidy had actually won homecoming queen, but no one was more excited and surprised than Cassidy herself. She literally broke down in tears of joy. Cassidy’s joyful tears were not just because she had been crowned homecoming queen, but that she was the first transgender teen to do so.  Her running and subsequent crowning set a positive example for other transgender teens in the state and nationwide.

While Cassidy winning homecoming queen is a small victory, it is an important one that could not have come at a better time. Youn-TRANSGENDER-HOMECOMING-QUEEN-large may have heard or even read in my recent blog, Comfortable in Your Own Body, that Governor Jerry Brown made history by signing into law rights for transgender youth in California.  This first-ever Transgender law supports transgender teens’ right to be themselves at school. Under this law, transgender teens can choose to use the restroom that is in accordance with their gender identity as opposed to using the one that matches their biological sex – or what was between their legs at birth. This law also paves the way for transgender teens to play and compete in sports once segregated by gender such as football and basketball.

Not surprising, the Transgender Law has come under fire from the same special people who fought so hard to overturn same-sex marriage in California – we all know how that ended. You’d think this group would give it up. Yet they’re moving full steam ahead in efforts to collect enough signatures to put an initiative on the next election ballot that would overturn the Transgender Law. This group believes that enough people in the state of California will support them. To this group that is obviously anti-love and anti-general human-kindness, I certainly hope Cassidy Campbell’s being crowned homecoming queen encourages you to open your eyes and recognize that more and more people are in favor of our basic human rights to love and happiness.  Such basic rights certainly includes the right to be true to ourselves – whomever we may be with regard to gender, sexual orientation, and more. If this is not the case for you anti-love folks you can take Cassidy’s shimmering crown and shove it where the sun don’t shine. Fantastic job, Cassidy and the teens at Marina High who voted for her! Until next Saturday…

Keep it safe ‘n sexy,

Ms. Robin, the Sex Goddess
